In today’s world, children face many factors that can affect their social development. Studies show that their ability to connect with others has declined, with social skills evolving based on factors like location, family dynamics, language, and even unique conditions such as autism.
At Embrace Abilities, our mission is to bring children closer together, fostering positive social skills, confidence, and respect for one another. Whether neurodivergent or neurotypical, all children benefit from learning how to connect with their peers meaningfully. We strive to promote inclusivity and understanding for all children as a community.
One of our success stories is Reese, who joined Embrace Abilities in June 2024. His family discovered the autism programs and group through the Mississippi Centers for Autism Facebook page while looking for more social opportunities for Reese. After attending two meetups, Reese excitedly asked, “Are we part of the Embrace Abilities group?” When his mom confirmed, he joyfully responded, “Yay!” It was clear that they had found the sense of community they had been seeking.
Like many neurodivergent children, Reese had faced challenges before joining Embrace Abilities. Diagnosed with autism, he had experienced difficulties maintaining early friendships as he grew older due to social deficits. His mother sought a place where Reese could be himself and build meaningful connections with others who understood and accepted him.
At one of their early meetups, Reese met Samuel, a child who shares his love for Sonic the Hedgehog. As Reese became excited about talking about his favorite topic, his arms started to wave, and his voice grew louder. Reese’s mom instinctively reached out to gently calm him, which was routine to help him stay aware of his space. But then Samuel’s mom, Holly, smiled and said, “He’s ok,” continuing the conversation like it was the most natural thing in the world. That simple moment of acceptance was profoundly meaningful to Reese’s mom, who had longed for a space where her son could be himself without judgment.
Reese’s mom shared, “I’ve found a place where my son can stim, be loud, and excited without receiving judgmental looks. I’ve also joined a community of moms who just get it.” This level of understanding and support is what makes Embrace Abilities so unique. We are deeply committed to fostering an environment where children and parents can feel seen, understood, and accepted.
At Embrace Abilities, we are each other’s defenders, voices, and support systems. This is not just a safe space for children—it’s a place where parents come together to share knowledge, resources, and, most importantly, acceptance.
We look forward to sharing more stories like Reese’s as we continue our mission. Together, we are creating a more inclusive world for all children and families.
From the very beginning, Carson Logan, age 5, and his family have been part of the Embrace Abilities journey. As one of the first families to join when the organization launched, the Logans have seen firsthand how powerful a welcoming and supportive community can be.
Carson’s mom, Christina, discovered Embrace Abilities on Facebook while searching for a space where her family could feel understood and accepted. Before joining, the Logans struggled to find peers and friends who truly “know what this journey is like.” That all changed at their very first meetup.
It was at that initial gathering that Christina met her best friend, Taren, and Carson formed a fast connection with Taren’s son, Rhett. “Our boys fit so well together and have a great friendship,” Christina shared. Over the past year, Carson, Rhett, and another friend, Liam, have enjoyed adventures outside of Embrace Abilities meetups, creating lasting memories and deepening their bonds.
For Christina, the impact of Embrace Abilities goes beyond just friendships for Carson. “It’s given us a safe place and a warm welcome,” she said. The support, understanding, and care they’ve experienced have made the organization a vital part of their lives.
As founding members, the Logans have helped set the tone for what Embrace Abilities strives to offer: meaningful connections, acceptance, and a sense of belonging. Christina encourages other families to give it a try. “Definitely attend at least one meetup and see if it’s a fit for you,” she said.
Carson’s story is a testament to the mission of Embrace Abilities—building connections, fostering friendships, and creating a community where families can thrive together. For those who have been part of the journey since the beginning, like the Logans, the impact is undeniable, and the future is filled with hope and possibility.
